FEBRUARY 9th - 13th
It's been a hectic couple of weeks for the students with Catholic Schools Week, Lego League, Science Fair, Geography Bee, archery, and basketball games. My being out 2 days last week put us a little behind where I wanted to be by this week, so I gave the students a reprieve and did not give a test over Unit 3. We're moving on to Unit 4 (Europe) this week which will carry us through the rest of the 9-weeks. 3rd 9-weeks Midterms will go home on Monday 2/16. Thursday of last week I introduced Unit 4 by having some class discussion about the influences of European culture on our own here in the United States. The vast majority of Americans trace their ancestry through Europe; our system of government is based upon democratic principles dating back to Ancient Greece, as well as Ancient Rome whose empire largely defined the development of cultures within Europe. Chapter 8 Pearson "Ancient & Medieval Europe" is now open for completion! It will be due Wednesday 2/11 by 11:59PM. For example: my login name would be "jpalmerhfs". The password is "palmerhfs1". |

This week we will be working on our project(s) focused on understanding the fundamental ideas of economics. Our class discussions have been great over the past couple weeks, and the students seem to be learning how Social Studies ties together many of the things they are learning in all of their classes. Culture, religion, art, science, and math are made significant by what we make of them as a people.
As a wrap-up to this section, we will talk about how "profit" can mean more than just money. When we invest time and effort into positive goals, we make ourselves and our communities better!
